CHANDRASUR (LEPIDIUM SATIVUM) ASALIA

Cultivate Chandrasur- Make enormous profit

 

          Chandrasur cultivation is possible with lesser input, lesser technical support, and lesser knowledge of cultivation and earns enough profit. Its botanical name is Lepidium Sativum. The other names are Asalia, Aaria, Halim, Aalia etc.

 

        Chandrasur belongs to the family of Mustard. Its plant grow up to 30 to 60 Cms. The life of the plant is 3 to 4 months only. The cultivation of Chandrasur is done during rabi season. This is cultivated all over India. But the states who produce Chandrasur in plenty are U.P., Rajsthan, Gujrat, Maharashtra and M.P.The seeds look small/tiny size and in reddish color. The seeds of Chandrasur are used to manufacture ayurvedic medicines. The medicines are used to cure diseases like stomach problems, indigestion, gas, and eye problems and for paralysis. Its seeds are also given to the cattle’s to enhance the quality and quantity of milk. Chandrasur us cultivated in different types of land. The crops are not eaten by cattle’s/animals. The insects do not destroy the crops also. Fertilizers and animals/cattle’s dung are required in very small quantities for the cultivation of chandrasur. By and large, this is a crop, which less inputs and yields more profits.

 

Method of Cultivation: - The cultivation is done during the months of Oct.-Nov. Before sowing of seed, ploughing of the land is to be done sufficiently. 10 to 12 Kgs. seeds are required for one-hectare cultivation. Seed’ sowing is normally done by throwing the seeds from the hands. While seed sowing, D.A.P. fertilizer is to be applied. The crop gets ready in 90 to 120 days. When the leaves become yellow and the seeds of the fruit become red, one can understand that the crop is ready for harvest. The crop can be cut off or it can be plucked by the hands and arrange to become dry and remove the seeds.

 

        The farmers get 4.5 to 5.5 Qtl. seeds per acre by cultivation of Chandrasur. The output is manifold in comparison to the inputs.
