Method of cultivation: - The plant grows 65 to 90 cms height.About 50 to 90 bunches comes out from the plant like grapes bunches. The land having sufficient water facility is considered most favorable for cultivation of Isabgol. The cultivation of Isabgol can also be done in the land with lesser water also. The best period for sowing the seeds is in the months of October-November.Seed sowing is done by both ways of our old custom i.e. applying the seed one by one in the ploughed soil OR by throwing from the hands.8 to 10 kg seeds are required for one-hectare land. For better germination in 8-10 days, an easy ploughing is necessary immediately after sowing the seed.Fertilizers and other such things like cow dung etc need to be applied in the land while ploughing is done. The seed of Isabgol is very small/tiny in size and there is necessary to mix it with sand while seed sowing for better results.
Animals/cattle’s normally try to destroy the crop.As such, attention/supervision requires regularly protecting the crop from them. The crop will become ready to harvest after 100 to 120 days. When bunches become reddish color and comes out with a light touch/press from the hands, one can realize that the crops are ready for harvest.18-20 qtl crops get from 1-hectare cultivation of Isabgol. The white skin of the seed, which is about 20-25%, is used for producing medicines.
Around 5-6 qtn white skin is available in the cultivation of one hectare land.
